Admittedly, I don’t know very much about Victorian England, other than that Queen Victoria was probably involved in the naming of the era. 🙂
Anyway, I do know that it was a time defined by the flowering of “morality,” as it was seen by the middle classes (who seemed to think that leaving the lower classes in a state of utter destitution fit right in with their moral values). It was a time of great literary output, as many of England’s most brilliant writers lived during this time. The era marked the beginning of the end for Imperialism in the UK. It was a post-enlightenment world still coming to grips with the upheaval of the previous century.
